IELTS For Immigration 101: Do I Need to Submit an Original Copy of My IELTS Test Results?

Being one of the most important requirements in filing a visa in countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada, having a good IELTS score puts a lot of pressure to its test candidates. The IELTS or the International English Language Testing System examination has been one of the most popular English proficiency examinations that show accuracy and reliability with its scoring. Additionally, the IELTS is accepted in many companies and academic institutions overseas.

Filipinos take the IELTS for a number of reasons. First, and most common, people use the IELTS for employment. Companies overseas need employees who are good at using the English language. Having a good score in the IELTS gives an assurance to employers that a certain individual will be able to survive an English speaking environment at work that will result to high productivity.

Another thing is Filipinos use them for application on colleges and universities. These academic institutions primarily use the IELTS certification to make sure students will be able to come with the demanding academic environment in their institutions – where students will be able to understand classroom discussions and group tasks in English.

Finally, some people use it as a requirement for immigration. Filipinos who wish to emigrate need to pass the IELTS to be awarded with a visa, of course, along with the other requirements for the said visa application. However, applicants have been wondering whether they need to give the original copy of their IELTS Test result or a scanned copy will suffice.

The answer is that most countries and even their institutions, business or academic, need the original copy of the IELTS certification. Further, since the IELTS organisation is aware that some countries, say for example, the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA), need an original certification, they will be giving the test candidate two copies of their Test Result Form.

Accordingly, any candidate can request up to five Test Result Forms (TRF) will be posted to the institutions the candidate has written down in the IELTS application form. However, additional TRF, other than these five, can be requested from the Test Centre that issued the TRF. A fee is to be paid; hence, candidates have to contact their Test Centres beforehand.

Candidates need to make sure that they have listed the institutions that will need the TRF. For more information on requesting a TRF, follow this link http://www.ielts.org/additionaltrf.aspx.
