Rating Criteria for the IELTS Writing

It has always been said that grammar and vocabulary are commonly assessed in an essay test in an English proficiency exam. With this, candidates study hard in improving their grammar skills. They take grammar exercises and review subject-verb agreements to make sure they have the correct grammar when writing. In addition, some read a lot to learn new words and word expressions that they could use in their essays. These vocabulary words are not only helpful in writing but also in speaking as well. However, for an English proficiency examination such as the IELTS or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination, there are some criteria that candidates have to consider when writing their responses.

There are four marking criteria used by raters in the IELTS exam. These will guide them in rating the essay given.

With these criteria, the essay will be guided and directed to a perfect IELTS writing. For best writing activities, it is essential for candidates to learn techniques and writing skills from IELTS mentors. With their guidance, essays will be more appropriate and will be written according to IELTS criteria.
