5 Ways to Enhance Your IELTS Review Approach

There are two ways to prepare for the IELTS exam: self-studying and enrolling in an IELTS review center. Both have their merits and demerits. Self-studying gives you total control over your review schedule and coverage. Ironically, the same advantage is its biggest disadvantage since without in-depth knowledge of the test’s blueprint you can miss vital topics in your training.

Enrolling in an IELTS review center, on the other hand, provides a more guided (albeit more constrained) training experience. Comprehensive courses, like those offered in the IELTS review center in Cebu, cover the evaluation’s essentials and more provided that you observe its classroom setup.

No matter which review approach you take, it is vital that you maximize your preparation period to reach your IELTS band score goal. Check out these study strategies to enhance your review approach.

If you are self-studying:

1.    Establish a timetable. If you are currently working or are still studying, do not wait for a free moment to study. Take control of your schedule and set your review sessions. Regulate your commitments; retain only what is important and trim inessential engagements. Establish a reasonable timetable and follow it.

2.    Get to know the exam. Since you are not enrolled in a training facility, it is your job to find out everything about the IELTS exam. Research its components, test types, time limits, and scoring system. Find out its critical points and how to handle them.

3.    Prioritize your weak points. The IELTS exam challenges your ability to communicate in English by evaluating your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. Use mock IELTS tests and assess your linguistic skills. Work on your weak points first before delving into the other aspects of your review.

4.    Schedule breaks. The problem with self-studying is that it increases the risk for procrastination. Without external supervision, it is easy to extend a 10-minute break to an hour. To avoid this issue, establish a specific time frame for your breaks. Set an alarm on your phone to prevent intermission extensions.

5.    Practice what you studied. Just because you memorized every page of your IELTS training module, it does not automatically mean that you will ace the exam. Remember, the evaluation tests your practical abilities. Exercise what you have learned by taking mock exams. Hone your verbal communication skills by conversing with someone who has a good grasp on the language.

If you are taking IELTS review center classes:

1.    Be prepared. Prepare your training materials the night before your IELTS classes to make sure you do not forget anything. Review your previous lessons for better comprehension of new and related topics. If you have a syllabus, check out the subjects that you will discuss in your next class.

2.    Sit in front of your class. How can you guarantee that you will not miss anything during your lectures if you are sitting at the back of the class? Enhance your concentration and comprehension by staying in front or near the front of the classroom.

3.    Participate in the discussion. Remember, you are attending your IELTS lectures to hone your English communication skills and expand your linguistic language. Ask questions and clarifications. Do not be afraid to make mistakes and participate in your class discussion.

4.    Consider your mistakes. Whenever you take mock tests, always take note of your mistakes. Identify your weak points and find out if there is a pattern to your errors. Take deliberate efforts to overcome them. If you have difficulties in pronunciation and oral fluency, find a conversation partner. If you have trouble distinguishing spoken words, listen to audio books and newscasts.

5.    Self-study. Never limit your IELTS preparations to your review lectures. Expand your vocabulary and enhance your comprehension by reading diverse literature. Hone your critical thinking skills and writing speed by composing essays for various world issues. Practice your English communication skills outside your classroom.
Whether you are enrolled in an excellent training facility, like the IELTS review center in Cebu, or engaged in intensive self-study sessions, these effective strategies will enhance your IELTS preparations. Utilize them wisely to elevate your chances of accomplishing your desired IELTS results.
