What Is Rote Learning?
Rote learning
is a process of memorizing various concepts and ideas based on repetition. It
involves deep concentration and critical thinking. Some examples of rote
learning include memorizing random numbers and lyrics of a song. The following
are the benefits of using rote learning in your exam preparation:
·
It
helps recall basic facts and other essential information.
·
It
boosts your memorization skills.
·
It
develops foundational knowledge.
Using Rote Learning in Your IELTS
UKVI Training
If you’re
interested in using this study technique in your study sessions, read and
follow these five simple steps on how to apply rote learning:
1. Choose
a text
In choosing a
text, make sure that it contains headings and subheadings as these factors play
a crucial part in rote learning. List down all the headings and subheadings on
a piece of paper.
2. Look
for critical points
In the second
step of rote learning, skim the text and look for critical points in each
heading and subheading. As you locate each critical point, list them down under
their corresponding heading or subheading.
3. Organize
your notes
During your
review classes in IELTS review center Philippines,
find a note-taking strategy to organize all critical points that you found in
the text. Charting, Cornell, Sentence, Box and Bullet, and K-W-L Method are
some examples of note-taking techniques.
4. Read
your notes
The fourth step
of rote learning involves examining the content of your notes. Analyze the
critical points on each heading and subheading. The key to effective rote
learning is to read your notes repeatedly.
5. Rewrite
your notes
The last step
of rote learning is rewriting your notes without looking at it. When rewriting
your notes, consider the following points:
·
List
down the headings and subheading.
·
Set
a time frame for each heading and subheading. Doing this enables you to recall the critical points quickly.
·
Write
all the critical points that come to your mind first.
·
Make
sure that you place the correct critical point on each heading and subheading.
·
Rephrase
a critical point if you forgot the exact word or phrase of it. Just make sure
that the main idea of the critical point is clear and accurate.
